Spurgeon Lawler Style! 01/09

Morning,

I have to say that this speaks to my heart so clearly! To ponder the thought that God would be ours has to be one of the most humbling and joyful thoughts we could have. It is not our choice to be God's but His choice, of His own will, to be ours. The implications are unthinkable. Let us look to the Joy of God choosing to belong to us!

Evening,

Duty vs. Delight! Such a Piper theme, did Spurgeon and Piper hang out?? I weep sometimes to think that God has chosen to belong to me, not only because I'm not worthy, which I'm not, but because He is so great and I have all that he is. When I ponder this thought I find myself serving Him and obeying Him out of Joy. This is not only a verse but a command from our Lord, Honor Him by showing the world how excited we are and Joyful we are to live for Him!

Such a wonderful paradox! To know that He is sufficient, His work on the cross is sufficient, to know that only He can satisfy, and yet to never have enough of Him nor enough of His love. Lord, may we always desire more of You, to drink of You more deeply every day, to never get enough of You until we are home with You!

Evening- "Those who serve God with a sad countenance, because they do what is unpleasant to them, are not serving Him at all; they bring the form of homage, but the life is absent."

I imagine there are many who may be "serving" God out of mere duty. Maybe even some people here are reading these "Morning and Evening" Devotionals out of some religious duty.

I want to encourage any such people to kneel before the Cross of Christ and be humbled by His sacrifice. Let His grace refresh you! May the Gospel flood your hearts and minds with Great joy, that you may delight in Him!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

hmmm... good point Joey. It's so easy to fall into the tempting and dangerous pit of duty. I guess that's why it's not called a dutytion. May we all be released from the bondage of duty by the freedom of grace in Christ.
